Prom night, two words Jake had come to dread over the past 3 days. After asking Alli, he regretted it more than anything. Why had he been so stupid? Hadn’t he known both girls would find out eventually. He sat on the side of his bed with his head rested against the wall. There was good half hour before prom officially began. Which meant twenty minutes before he’d pick up Jess in the truck and lie about where they were going. His phone vibrated shaking the oak table it sat on. One of them, he thought as he forced himself to check it. It was Jess, a friendly message looking forward the evening. He wasn’t even in his tux yet. The crisp black suit was still in the plastic casing he rented it in. The bag seemed to stare at him from the corner, he had to put it on eventually. Jake groaned, caving into the pressure the clothing put on him. He changed into the black outfit and looked in the mirror, “depressing,” he whispered as he stared at his image. He wondered if Jess was ready or not yet. Quickly he scurried down the stairs, avoiding his parents and entering the truck.
